Come and get it! The MAME 0.137u3 update is here. Make sure you play games that use the TMS5220 speech chip and report any problems.
MAME is a multi-purpose emulation framework.
MAME’s purpose is to preserve decades of software history. As electronic technology continues to rush forward, MAME prevents this important "vintage" software from being lost and forgotten. This is achieved by documenting the hardware and how it functions. The source code to MAME serves as this documentation. The fact that the software is usable serves primarily to validate the accuracy of the documentation (how else can you prove that you have recreated the hardware faithfully?). Over time, MAME (originally stood for Multiple Arcade Machine Emulator) absorbed the sister-project MESS (Multi Emulator Super System), so MAME now documents a wide variety of (mostly vintage) computers, video game consoles and calculators, in addition to the arcade video games that were its initial focus.
The MAME project as a whole is distributed under the terms of the GNU General Public License, 2 (GPL-2.0), since it contains code made available under multiple GPL-compatible licenses. A great majority of files (over 90% including core files) are under the BSD-3-Clause License and we would encourage new contributors to distribute files under this license.
Please note that MAME is a registered trademark of Gregory Ember, and permission is required to use the "MAME" name, logo or wordmark.

The second update to 0.137 is here!
Time to grab the first update to 0.137.
And kindly stop harassing us if you hear that an update is coming but it hasn't been posted yet. Each update is validated against 8 different build styles on a relatively middle-tier system, and that validation takes a while, especially when it finds issues (which is why we run the validation steps in the first place!) and we have to start it all over again.
Believe it or not, the first official MAME release of 2010 is finally available, so head on over to the Latest Release page and grab yourself a copy!
MAME 0.136u4 is now available on the MAME Updates page. Next release will be 0.137.
Happy Valentine's Day. Now you can ignore your S.O. and go play with the latest MAME Update instead. Have fun!
The second update to MAME 0.136 is now available on the Source Updates page.
